Holiday Social Media Photo Challenge Official Rules
The holiday season arrives in Australia during summer, bringing warm evenings, beach days, outdoor gatherings and busy shopping precincts. The Holiday Social Media Photo Challenge invites eligible participants to share that seasonal energy through an original photograph inspired by GUESS or Marciano style.
The Official Rules for the Holiday Social Media Photo Challenge set out who may enter, how to submit a photograph, what content is permitted and how any prize or recognition will be handled. They are designed to keep the promotion clear, fair and enjoyable across social media.
A strong entry can capture a festive outfit at home, a styled look in a city setting or a personal interpretation of holiday glamour. Participants should focus on creativity and authenticity rather than expensive locations or professional equipment. A phone photograph can be just as effective as a studio image when the idea and styling feel personal.
Before posting, entrants should read the current promotion page, including the opening and closing dates, the eligible Australian states and territories, the judging criteria and any prize details. If a conflict exists between this editorial summary and the complete terms, the complete official rules will apply.
Who Can Enter And When
The challenge is open to individuals who meet the eligibility requirements published with the promotion. In an Australian campaign, those requirements may include a minimum age, a valid Australian residential address and exclusion of employees, contractors, agencies and members of their immediate families connected with GUESS, Marciano or the promotion.
Entrants should use an account they control and keep it public for the relevant judging period if public visibility is required. A private account may prevent the organisers from viewing or verifying an entry. Instagram, TikTok or another nominated platform may have separate age and account rules, so participants must comply with both the platform’s terms and the promotion’s official rules.
The entry window matters. Posts uploaded before the opening time or after the closing time may be ineligible, even if they remain visible on a profile. Australian time zones can create confusion when a campaign operates nationally, particularly for participants in Perth, Darwin or Brisbane. The official terms should identify the controlling time zone and deadline.
Unless the official rules state otherwise, each person should submit only the permitted number of entries. If multiple entries are allowed, every photograph should satisfy the requirements independently. Automated, bulk, scripted or commercially managed submissions can be rejected, as can entries that use misleading accounts or attempt to manipulate engagement.
Creating An Eligible Photograph
An entry should be an original photograph created by the participant. It may show a holiday outfit, a GUESS-inspired styling moment, a festive accessory or a seasonal scene, provided it follows the stated creative brief. The photograph should be suitable for a broad public audience and should not contain dangerous behaviour, offensive imagery, unlawful material or content that could damage another person’s reputation.
Participants must own, or have permission to use, every important element in the image. That includes the photograph itself, artwork visible in the background, music attached to a video, logos that do not belong to the entrant and recognisable people appearing in the frame. A simple photograph taken in a home, at a Christmas market or along a Sydney laneway can reduce rights concerns while still producing a polished result.
Do not photograph people who have not agreed to appear. Written consent is especially important where a person is clearly identifiable, where the image may be used for promotional purposes or where children are involved. A parent or legal guardian should provide permission for anyone under 18, and the promotion may require evidence of that permission before an entry can be accepted.
The photograph should not suggest that a celebrity, designer, retailer or public figure endorses the entry unless that relationship genuinely exists. It should also avoid implying that GUESS or Marciano has approved an unauthorised collaboration. For practical styling inspiration, readers can explore behind-the-scenes fashion while keeping their submitted content independently created.
Posting And Tagging Requirements
To enter, participants must publish the photograph through the nominated social media account and follow the instructions in the official rules. Those instructions may require a campaign hashtag, a tagged brand account, a caption, a location reference or a statement confirming that the post is an entry. Missing one required element can make an otherwise appealing photograph ineligible.
Hashtags and tags should be copied carefully. A spelling variation, an unrelated promotional hashtag or a tag placed in a later comment may not satisfy the entry method. Entrants should keep the original post live and avoid editing out the required details before judging or verification is complete.
Australian advertising and consumer protection standards also matter. If a participant has received a product, payment or another benefit connected with the post, that relationship should be disclosed clearly. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission expects promotional communications to avoid misleading impressions, while the Australian Association of National Advertisers provides guidance on distinguishable advertising. A competition entry must never falsely state that a product was purchased, personally used or independently recommended.
Social media engagement may form part of the judging criteria only if the rules say so. Buying likes, using engagement pods, operating several accounts or asking automated services to interact with a post can undermine the integrity of the challenge. The organisers may verify suspicious activity and remove entries that breach the platform’s rules or the promotion conditions.
Judging, Verification And Use Of Entries
The official rules should explain whether entries are selected by a panel, judged against creative criteria, chosen by chance or assessed through a combination of methods. If creativity is considered, the criteria may include originality, relevance to the brief, visual appeal and effective expression of the holiday theme. A high follower count should not decide a creative competition unless the published terms expressly make public voting relevant.
Potential winners may be contacted through the social account used for entry or through details supplied during verification. They should respond within the period stated in the rules and may need to provide proof of identity, age, residency, ownership of the photograph and permission from people shown in it. If verification fails or a selected entrant cannot accept the prize, the organisers may select another eligible entry where permitted.
Prizes should be accepted as described and may be subject to availability, conditions, delivery limits or restrictions on transfer. Australian tax treatment can depend on the nature and value of a prize and on the recipient’s circumstances. A winner should obtain independent advice if the award has business, employment or tax implications.
By entering, participants may give GUESS or Marciano a licence to display, repost or share the submission for promotion of the challenge. The licence should be checked carefully for its duration, territory, media, editing rights and whether it is exclusive or non-exclusive. Entering does not automatically transfer copyright in the photograph, but it may grant the organiser meaningful permission to use it.
The brand may also moderate comments, remove unlawful or unsuitable material and decline to publish an entry. Australian privacy obligations, including the Privacy Act where applicable, require personal information to be handled in line with the relevant privacy notice. Participants should avoid posting addresses, phone numbers, travel details or other private information in captions and comments.
Safety, Fairness And Australian Conditions
Summer conditions shape holiday content in Australia. Participants should take care around beaches, pools, roads, cliffs, bushland, heat and evening events. A stylish photograph is never worth entering a restricted area, ignoring warning signs or creating a risk for the person taking the image. Permission may be needed when photographing inside a shopping centre, store, restaurant, gallery or privately managed venue.
Brand experiences and retail settings can provide strong visual backgrounds, but local venue rules still apply. A participant should ask staff before using tripods, lighting, extensive equipment or photographs that prominently feature other customers. The same care applies at busy Melbourne laneways, Brisbane riverfront areas, Perth shopping centres and community holiday events.
The promotion must operate consistently with Australian consumer law and any applicable state or territory requirements. Trade promotion rules can differ between jurisdictions, and some promotions may require permits or specific disclosures depending on the entry method and prize structure. The official terms should identify the promoter, the governing law, the complaints process and any limitation that the law permits.
Participants should also remember that social platforms are independent services. A platform may remove a post, change its functionality or restrict an account without responsibility for the promotion. If that happens, the entrant should follow the official alternative method, if one is provided, rather than creating duplicate submissions. For a sense of the brand’s retail atmosphere, VIP shopping moments can offer context without replacing the published entry instructions.
The spirit of the challenge is personal expression. A photograph styled in a Melbourne apartment, captured before a family barbecue in Adelaide or taken during an evening walk through Sydney can communicate the season as effectively as a highly produced campaign image. Participants should respect other people, protect their creative rights and submit only material they would be comfortable seeing associated with their public profile.
An official rules page should remain the final reference for every operational detail, including dates, hashtags, entry limits, prize descriptions, judging, winner notification and content permissions. Readers looking for seasonal styling ideas can also browse holiday look inspiration, then adapt the mood in a way that is original, lawful and suitable for the nominated platform.
Read the complete promotion terms before posting, prepare an original photograph, secure consent from everyone identifiable and check each required tag or hashtag. Share the finished look during the eligible period and keep the entry available until judging and verification have ended. That simple preparation helps your holiday style take centre stage while supporting a fair and enjoyable challenge for the Australian GUESS and Marciano community.
