Your Guide To GUESS Monthly Style Challenges
A monthly style challenge gives GUESS fans a simple way to share their personal take on current fashion and enter for the chance to receive a gift card. Each edition may have its own theme, styling prompt, eligibility conditions and closing date, so the details on the live promotion page should always be your starting point.
For Australian entrants, the process is usually easiest when you treat it like a quick content project rather than a last-minute giveaway entry. Check the brief, plan an outfit that suits your own wardrobe, create the required post and keep a record of your submission before the deadline.
The strongest entries do not need to look like a professional campaign. A well-lit outfit photo taken in a Sydney laneway, a Melbourne café district or a sunny Gold Coast setting can communicate personality effectively when the styling is clear and the image follows the rules.
Before entering, read the official terms carefully. They may explain who can participate, whether the promotion is open to Australian residents, which social platform must be used, how often you can enter, what hashtag is required and how the winner will be contacted.
Find The Current Challenge Brief
Begin with the official GUESS Journal channels rather than relying on an old social post or a repost from another account. The promotion may appear alongside fashion editorials, campaign updates, retail news or other brand experiences, and the most recent announcement should contain the relevant entry instructions.
The GUESS social channels can help you locate the latest style prompt and see how the brand is presenting the challenge. Look for the campaign name, entry period, required tags and any instructions about public profiles. A private account may prevent the organisers from viewing or validating your entry.
Pay close attention to dates and time zones. An Australian competition may use Australian Eastern time, Australian Central time or Australian Western time depending on the promotion’s terms. If the closing time falls during a busy weekday, submit earlier rather than trying to post during the final arvo.
The prize description also matters. A gift card may have a stated Australian dollar value, an expiry date, store-use restrictions or conditions about online and in-store redemption. The official rules take priority over social captions, influencer commentary and assumptions based on previous monthly challenges.
Turn The Prompt Into A Wearable Look
Once you know the theme, translate it into an outfit that feels like you. If the brief focuses on denim, build a complete look around the texture rather than simply adding one denim item. If it highlights evening dressing, show how the clothing, shoes, accessories and setting work together.
GUESS styling often combines recognisable denim, fitted silhouettes, statement details and polished accessories. You can interpret that language without copying a campaign image. A relaxed Australian approach might pair a structured GUESS jacket with sneakers for a weekend in Brisbane, or balance a dressier look with practical layers for a cooler Melbourne day.
Consider the location before taking photographs. Strong sunlight can wash out colour, while harsh midday shadows can hide details such as stitching, hardware and fabric texture. Open shade near a building, a bright indoor space or the soft light before sunset can produce a cleaner result than a crowded beach at noon.
Keep the clothing visible and the composition uncluttered. A simple full-length frame often makes it easier for the organiser to assess the styling. If the challenge asks for a close-up, carousel, video or specific pose, follow that requirement exactly instead of assuming that an attractive alternative will qualify.
Create An Entry That Meets The Rules
An entry usually depends on more than wearing a particular outfit. The terms may require a public post, a certain account tag, a campaign hashtag, a written caption or an answer connected to the monthly theme. Missing one small requirement can make an otherwise stylish post ineligible.
Read the wording carefully before publishing. Check whether the post must remain live until the winner is announced, whether stories are accepted, whether multiple entries are permitted and whether the entrant must own the photograph. Do not use images supplied by a photographer, friend or brand without confirming that you have permission to submit them.
Your caption can be brief and natural. Mention the styling idea, identify the relevant prompt and include the required hashtag or tag exactly as written. Avoid adding a long list of unrelated hashtags, as they can distract from the entry and make it harder to see that you followed the brief.
If the challenge requests a video, record a clean sequence that shows the outfit from useful angles. Keep music, filters and text overlays within the rules. For a photo entry, check that logos, faces and background details do not create avoidable privacy or copyright concerns, especially when shooting around busy retail areas such as Bondi Junction or Chadstone.
Protect Your Eligibility And Track The Entry
Save evidence after posting. A screenshot showing the final image, caption, timestamp and tags gives you a personal record if the post is edited, archived or removed by mistake. It is also useful to save a copy of the official rules and note the closing date in your calendar.
If you enter from Australia, confirm the residency and age requirements before spending time on the creative work. Some promotions are available only to residents of particular countries or states, while others exclude employees, contractors, agencies and people connected with the promoter. A gift card promotion can also have separate rules for redemption in Australia.
Be cautious about winner notifications. Legitimate organisers should not require your password, ask you to pay a release fee or request sensitive banking information simply to claim a standard retail prize. Verify any message through the brand’s official account or the contact details in the published terms, particularly if the notification arrives from a new profile.
The JLO x GUESS launch is a useful example of why campaign context can matter when developing a look. A collection launch, collaboration or seasonal story may influence the visual direction of a challenge, but the monthly brief remains the authority for what must appear in your entry.
Compare Your Entry Options Before Posting
There are several ways to approach a style challenge, and the best route depends on the requirements rather than the amount of effort you can invest. A spontaneous outfit post may suit a simple photo prompt, while a more detailed concept is worthwhile when the challenge rewards storytelling or asks for a video.
| Entry approach | What to check | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Single outfit photo | Full outfit visibility, required tags and a public post | A clear styling prompt with simple instructions |
| Carousel post | Whether multiple images are allowed and which image appears first | Showing accessories, details and different angles |
| Short video | Duration, sound, format and any required movement or transition | A challenge focused on styling changes or personality |
| In-store or event content | Location rules, photography permissions and promotion dates | A GUESS retail activation or local brand experience |
| Existing wardrobe interpretation | Whether older items or non-current pieces are accepted | Personal styling with a strong, original point of view |
Do not assume that a more elaborate entry has a better chance. Judges may value relevance, creativity, presentation and compliance, and an oversized production can make the requested outfit difficult to see. A sharp concept captured on a phone can be more effective than a complicated shoot that overlooks the required hashtag.
You can review current brand storytelling and seasonal direction through the GUESS campaign updates, then use that information for visual inspiration without reproducing official imagery. Look at colour, attitude, setting and styling combinations, and adapt those ideas to your own clothes and Australian surroundings.
If you shop for a piece specifically for the challenge, keep your receipt and understand the retailer’s returns policy. A winning entry should be enjoyable even if it does not receive a prize, so choose something you can wear beyond the promotion. A versatile jacket, denim piece or accessory may deliver more value than an item bought only for one photograph.
Before you publish, use a quick final check:
- The post is on the required account and the profile is visible if needed.
- The outfit or styling detail requested in the brief is easy to see.
- Every required hashtag, tag, caption element and format is included.
- The post is live before the stated Australian closing time.
- You have saved a screenshot and a copy of the relevant terms.
- You understand how the gift card can be used if you are selected.
When the entry is ready, publish it with confidence and keep the post available for the period stated in the official rules. Follow the brand’s verified channels for announcements, but remember that being selected is never guaranteed. The purpose of the challenge is to express a personal style perspective while taking part in the GUESS community.
Make your next look distinctive, check every requirement twice and submit before the deadline. Browse the latest official challenge information, create an entry that feels genuinely yours and keep your records until the promotion has fully closed.
