How to enter the monthly photo contest for a chance to be featured

A great GUESS look can begin with a single outfit, a memorable location, or a personal styling detail that feels entirely your own. The monthly photo contest gives members of the GUESS community an opportunity to share that point of view and potentially appear on the GUESS Journal blog.

A successful entry is more than a product photograph. It is a clear, well-composed expression of personal style that fits the spirit of GUESS and Marciano. The strongest submissions usually show how clothing, accessories, confidence, and setting work together in a natural visual story.

Before taking a photo or posting an entry, review the current official announcement and its complete rules. The active promotion may specify the entry period, eligibility requirements, approved platforms, hashtags, account settings, image rights, judging details, and any restrictions that apply to submissions.

Start with the official contest announcement

The official contest post is the most reliable source for current requirements. Monthly promotions can have different deadlines or submission instructions, so do not rely on an older social post, a shared screenshot, or a previous contest format. Look for the latest announcement on GUESS Journal and the brand’s verified social channels.

Read the rules from beginning to end before preparing your entry. Pay close attention to the closing date and time, geographic eligibility, age requirements, and whether entrants must follow a particular account. If the rules call for a public social profile, changing the account after submission could affect whether the entry can be reviewed.

The announcement should also explain how the feature opportunity works. Being selected for editorial recognition is different from receiving a prize, and the official rules will clarify whether there is compensation, a purchase requirement, a release form, or permission for GUESS to repost submitted content. Save a copy of the rules for your records.

Build a look with a clear point of view

Start by choosing one style direction rather than trying to show every trend at once. A relaxed denim outfit, a polished evening look, or a streetwear-inspired combination can each make a strong entry when the pieces feel intentional. Consider the mood, color palette, proportions, and setting before taking the picture.

If you are styling a seasonal piece, use accessories to give the outfit personality without distracting from its central idea. For example, a casual skirt can be balanced with a structured bag, simple jewelry, and shoes that reinforce the intended mood. This cargo skirt guide can help inspire a casual-chic combination while leaving room for your own interpretation.

Choose clothing that you genuinely enjoy wearing. A natural pose and comfortable expression are easier to achieve when the outfit reflects your personal taste. The goal is not to recreate a campaign image exactly; it is to show how GUESS style fits into your life.

Take a photo that tells a story

Good lighting is one of the simplest ways to make an outfit photograph look polished. Soft daylight near a window or outdoors can reveal fabric texture and color more accurately than harsh overhead lighting. Avoid placing the brightest light directly behind you unless you are deliberately creating a silhouette.

Keep the background useful but uncluttered. A city street, café exterior, bedroom corner, or architectural wall can establish a setting without competing with the outfit. Check the edges of the frame for distracting objects, uneven horizons, or other people who have not agreed to appear in the image.

Take several versions with different distances and poses. A full-body image can show the complete styling, while a closer crop may highlight denim details, jewelry, a bag, or a distinctive print. Review every image before submitting and choose the one that communicates your look immediately on a phone screen.

Match the caption to the image

A caption should add context without turning into a long explanation. Mention the style idea, occasion, or detail that makes the look personal. A short line about dressing for a weekend in the city, mixing textures, or making a classic piece feel current can give the image an editorial point of view.

Use only the required tags, handles, and hashtags listed in the official announcement. Adding unrelated promotional tags can make a post look unfocused, while omitting a required hashtag or account mention could make it difficult for the organizers to identify the entry. Keep spelling and punctuation accurate.

Before publishing, verify that the image and caption follow every content restriction. Do not include visible logos or products from competing promotions if the rules prohibit them, and avoid copyrighted music, artwork, or third-party images that you do not have permission to use. Everyone recognizable in the photograph should understand and approve its use.

Check the details before submitting

An entry can be visually strong and still become ineligible because of a missed technical requirement. Use the checklist below as a practical review, then compare it with the official rules because the active promotion always takes priority.

Entry detail What to verify Why it matters
Timing The post is published within the stated entry period Late entries may not be considered
Account status Your profile meets any public-account requirement Organizers may need to view the original post
Tags and hashtags Every required handle and hashtag is included correctly These may be used to locate eligible submissions
Originality The image is your own work and has permission for everyone shown Unauthorized content can be disqualified
Caption The text follows the stated format and restrictions Missing information may affect eligibility
Rules Eligibility, rights, judging, and selection terms are understood The rules define how the promotion operates

Use the platform’s original post when possible rather than uploading a screenshot or compressed duplicate. Confirm that the tagged account is correct and that the entry remains visible until the stated judging or selection period has passed. If the rules require a public post, make sure privacy settings do not block access.

For outfit inspiration or to find pieces that complete your idea, browse the GUESS shop before planning the shoot. Select items that work together in proportion and color, and remember that a compelling image can feature one hero piece rather than a head-to-toe display.

Give the image an editorial finish

Think about how the photo would look within a fashion story. A consistent color mood, a deliberate crop, and a pose that feels relaxed can make a simple outfit more memorable. Editing should improve brightness and clarity while preserving the true appearance of the clothing and the person wearing it.

Avoid filters that dramatically alter fabric colors or body proportions. Over-editing may create an attractive image, but it can weaken the connection between the photograph and the real outfit. A clean, authentic presentation is more useful to a brand considering content for a blog or social feature.

You can also study how GUESS presents visual narratives across its media. The brand’s reel series offers a useful reminder that strong fashion content often combines product details with movement, setting, and personality. Your entry does not need production-level equipment; it needs a recognizable idea.

Share with confidence and stay alert

Once the entry is live, monitor the account used for submission during the period described in the rules. If the brand contacts a selected entrant, the message may request confirmation of identity, permission to use the image, or additional information. Follow only the communication methods identified in the official announcement.

Be cautious with unexpected messages requesting payment, passwords, banking details, or sensitive personal information. A legitimate promotion should be governed by published official rules, and any request should be consistent with the contact instructions provided there. Never send account credentials to claim editorial recognition.

Keep the original photograph and any relevant permission records. If your image is selected, you may need a high-resolution file or confirmation that you own the content. Maintaining an organized copy of the image, caption, and publication date also makes it easier to verify your submission.

Make your entry more memorable

A thoughtful entry does not require a complicated production. Concentrate on a strong outfit, a clear setting, and an image that feels connected to your own style. These practical choices can help your submission stand out while keeping the process enjoyable:

  • Choose one main fashion idea and support it with coordinated accessories.
  • Use natural or even lighting so colors, texture, and fit remain easy to see.
  • Keep the background simple enough to frame the outfit rather than compete with it.
  • Write a concise caption that adds personality and includes every required tag.
  • Review the current official rules immediately before posting.

The most compelling community features often feel personal rather than overly polished. A favorite jacket worn in a familiar neighborhood, a creative interpretation of a seasonal trend, or a carefully styled everyday look can communicate more than a staged image with too many visual elements.

Treat the submission as a small piece of editorial storytelling. Decide what you want viewers to notice first, then shape the clothing, composition, caption, and setting around that detail. This approach gives the photo a stronger identity and helps it feel at home alongside fashion editorials and brand experiences on GUESS Journal.

Your next entry can begin with the pieces already in your wardrobe and a point of view that belongs to you. Review the latest announcement, follow each requirement carefully, capture the look in your own way, and share it before the stated deadline for the opportunity to be featured on the blog.
