#GUESSGirl Jennifer Lopez sits down with us for an exclusive interview on everything from her favorite outfit from the #JLOxGUESS Collection to what’s next in her career.
“For me feeling sexy is about feeling confident in what I’m wearing – whether it’s on the red carpet or in my everyday wardrobe.”
What is your favorite item from the collection?
“The Lola Jumpsuit.” (pictured above)
What is your favorite denim fit?
“High-waisted skinny jeans.”
What trend will you never get tired of?
“The perfect pair of jeans and a t-shirt will always be the perfect thing to wear no matter what. They will never go out of style.”
How do you describe your personal style and how has it evolved through the years?
“I would call my personal style glamorous and classic yet edgy. I’m a singer, dancer and entertainer on one side, and then an actress on the other, so for me it’s about mixing those styles. Fashion is something that you can never really put your finger on. There are always trends, but for me personally my style is always evolving and always changing, but what’s classic is classic, and that never changes, that always stays the same.”
You became famous before social media was established, how do you use it from a personal standpoint?
“Social media has been an incredible way to give fans a look into my life and interact directly with my fans. I definitely have fun with it, but I grew up in a time when it didn’t exist, so it isn’t everything to me like it is to some people. It’s important to remember the value and fun in it, but not let it consume you. One of my favorite accounts to follow is @createandcultivate – they include great inspirational quotes.”
Who is your favorite GUESS Girl of all time?
“Eva Herzigova or Anna Nicole Smith.”
Do you remember your first GUESS purchase?
“A pair of GUESS jeans. I remember wearing them for the first time and thinking they were the classic and perfect-fitting pair of jeans.”
You always exude confidence and are comfortable in your own skin to the rest of the world… what moments do you feel your sexiest?
“For me feeling sexy is about feeling confident in what I’m wearing – whether it’s on the red carpet or in my everyday wardrobe. Your clothes can bring out your personality and exude your happiness and your confidence.”
Who is your style icon?
“Elizabeth Taylor, Diana Ross or Barbra Streisand.”
When do you feel most inspired?
“When I’m working with passionate, creative people who push me to think outside the box and make me want to challenge myself to try new things.”
Can you describe your personal style in 3 words?
“Sexy, feminine, strong.”
What’s the one fashion item you could never live without?
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
“Always listen to yourself and listen to your gut, because only you know what’s right for you.”
What is one of your favorite fashion moments?
“The dress I wore to the Oscars in 2015. It made me feel like a princess.”
As a style icon, do you have advice for people trying to identify their personal style?
“Clothes can be a reflection of your personality, so personal style should vary for everyone. For me personally, clothes bring out a specific type of energy in any situation from a red carpet to performing on stage. It’s about trying new things and experimenting with what looks match the way you’re feeling or the characteristics that embody who you are.”
With the resurgence of 90’s fashion, we can’t help but think about the “Fly Girls”, do you have a favorite look from that time? Favorite moment?
“Black turtleneck and big hoops. I had a lot of great moments on the show, but I would say my debut on the show in 1991 was a special moment for me because I knew it was the start of something special.”
What’s on your playlist?
“Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran.”
What’s the next big thing? The star on the horizon?
“This year I’m continuing my Vegas residency, All I Have, in addition to shooting season two of World of Dance. I’ve also finished work on season three of Shades of Blue and my film Second Act, both of which I’m excited to share with everyone. I’m also always working on new music – currently both a Spanish-language album and an English-language album.”
